Updates from out of the blue

Things got a little hectic there for a while. I've had some major stuff pop up over the past few months. I know... it's not fair that I didn't let everyone in on it. So here's a brief run-down:

1. The documentary project about Operation Tailwind that I had been working on nearly full time got side-tracked a little. Funding was pulled and we went into a bit of a tailspin to try to replace it. Todd, my good friend, is no longer producer. I'm not sure exactly how I feel about that. On the one hand, I feel terrible for Todd because this is just the latest in a string of misfortune he's had to deal with lately. Most of his troubles revolve around family - including the death of his older brother who practically raised Todd to adulthood. On the other hand, Todd could use a break from this project. The strain of it was swallowing him whole. We'll see how it all turns out, I guess...

2. I've started turning new business with Hat Digital Media. It's taking a while, but I think it's starting to level out. By this time, I've picked up a few new clients here and there and a couple of big projects that have a good chance of paying out in the future. It's not the same as having a regular paying gig, but it's a heck of a lot more fulfilling. I love what I do, and I think there's potential for me to make a pretty good living at it.

3. (this is actually the most important one, but I wanted to wait to reveal it) I got married! three decades of single-hood were enough. Kara and I were married on January 8th, 2006. Our honeymoon was at Disney World where we didn't have enough time to really explore everything but still had a lot of fun. And married life? It's pretty much what I expected it to be. I suppose we're still in the "honeymoon stage," but I feel like Kara and I have a WONDERFUL marriage. It's taking a little getting used to - but it's so completely worth it. The only real dilemma has been introducing our cats!

4. Speaking of marriage, for the past few months I've been talking with the Houston Chronicle about doing a blog about year one of being married. I was completely stoked about doing it! We're working out a few of the kinks right now, but hopefully we'll get it going soon. I'll post the address here if and when!

Those are the major things that have popped up. It's the thousands of minor things that kept me from really doing any blog entries. Most of those involved preparing for the wedding. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it. The wedding was beautiful and everyone seemed to have a good time. And yes, eventually I'll be able to post some photos. Right now, our heavy concentration is on getting the apartment to look like something other than a bomb site.
