Two recent conversations about writing for a living:

"So what do you do for a living," she asked.
"I'm a writer."
"Oh! What have you written?"
"I have a few science fiction novels, and I make a living as a copywriter."
(long pause)
"Oh. Is it expensive to get a copyright?"
(shorter pause)
"No."

"You can't prove that," I replied.

"You ARE, aren't you?"
