Tai Chi and the Zen of Video Production

A lot of you know that I own my own production company, Hat Digtial Media (www.hatdigitalmedia.com). Although I've owned the company for quite a while now, it's only been recently that things have started to jump. Most of that can be attributed to a new business venture of mine... the OFFICE!

In a couple of months my new office space should be ready to move into. It's a great deal that gives me not only a place to hang my hat (pun intended) but tons of equipment to use, people to help with projects and above all BUSINESS. The people I'm sub-letting the space from have already given me so much business that sometimes I don't know if I can handle it all!

So that's a good thing.

Case in point - today I went to a Tai Chi park and worked as a 2nd camera operator for the dedication. It was FASCINATING. I don't know if Tai Chi has become mainstream enough for everyone to know about it, but just in case you can think of it as a sort of deliberate martial art that's geared towards fitness and mental centering more than combat (though it uses combat forms much of the time). It's a low-impact form of exercise that has tremendous cardio benefits. The idea behind it, for the most part, is teaching balance. Balance and breathing are the key components of Tai Chi.

You should try it! I'm going to. I did it for a short while and the benefits were outstanding. Now that I'm going to be moving back to Houston, it's time to try it again. I could use SOMETHING for exercise, anyway.

By the way, if you know of any great places to rent in Houston, I could use the advice. My girlfriend Kara and I have been checking out townhomes (not to live together, just to help ME out) and a couple of other places, but I just haven't found anything that's "right" yet.

Anyway, let me know if you have any suggestions!
