I had a chance to chat and exchange interviews with author, artist, and poet Violette Meier.

I love doing interviews like this (ever seen my "five questions" interviews? I'll dig those out and dust them off soon). The indie author community is already strong and growing stronger, and I feel honored and privileged to be a part of it! But enough about me, let's talk about Violette Meier —

What inspired you to start writing and what keeps you going?

I have been writing since I was 12 years old. I can’t recall what the inspiration was, but it came as easy as breathing. Poetry was my first love and I fell in love with prose when in college.

My imagination keeps me going. It seems as if my mind never stops. I dream and daydream without ceasing. I conjure up new creatures, foreign worlds, and supernatural scenarios daily. Also, my family keeps me going. It is important for me to show my children that dreams come true and if you work hard and chase your dreams, you will have what you visualize in your mind.

What was your first published work?

My first published work was Violette Ardor: A Volume of Poetry. When I first saw my name on a book I was elated. I knew my dreams were coming to fruition. Since then I have published four more books: The First Chronicle of Zayashariya: Out of Night (fantasy/sci-fi novel), Angel Crush (supernatural thriller novel), This Sickness We Call Love (poetry), and Tales of a Numinous Nature (supernatural/horror short stories).

Why indie publishing?

It gives me total creative freedom. My first book was under a vanity press. My second two books were under a small press. I regained my publishing rights and started my own publishing company, Viori Publishing, in 2013. Now I can control how I am marketed, my brand, and my vision. Nothing tastes as good as freedom and working hard is easier when you’re working for yourself.

Who's in your "support network?" (who do you turn to for inspiration, advice, marketing tips, etc.?)

My husband and my family are my major support network. I also am very close to a few authors, publishers, and business marketers who give me great tips and advice.

 What's your latest project?

At the moment I am working on to the sequel to Angel Crush. It should be released by the end of the year. My fans have been begging for it so it is time for me to oblige! I am eager to give an update on my characters Sadie, James, their sinister son Khalid, and his celestial father Turiel.

Do you have any promotions going on?

Every month I give away a VISA gift card to a lucky winner who is able to answer a trivia question about one of my books. The question is posted on the 1st of each month via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, and Instagram. This will last until December 2014.

Also I opened up a Fundme account to fund my nationwide, ten city, book tour.  Donations will receive some great gifts.   http://www.gofundme.com/8g3ms4

I’m always offering major book discounts to book clubs.
